Preventing Respiratory Illness

  • Practice good hygiene habits during cold and flu season.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  • Wash hands often, especially after coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Ask your doctor about the influenza vaccine for children 6-23 months and eligible adults.

Preventing Acute Otitis Media

  • Breastfeed your child for at least six months.
  • Do not put your baby in bed with a bottle propped in his/her mouth. Propping the bottle is linked to ear infections and choking.
  • Eliminate exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke.
