WARN Coalition Accomplishments 2005

Clinician Education Activities

  • Worked with Group Health Cooperative of Eau Claire, Wisconsin on a pilot managed care prescribing performance initiative.
  • Developed and distributed “Guidelines for Antibiotic Prescribing in Primary Care” brochure to all new primary care clinicians and pharmacists.
  • Distributed WARN Policy Statements for Telithromycin, Ciprofloxacin, and the judicious use of antibiotics during a Pertussis outbreak.
  • Presented the latest information on appropriate antibiotic use to fellow physicians for CME credit (14-member WARN Speakers Bureau).
  • Provided educational seminars about judicious antibiotic use to health care providers, and health professional associations.
  • Enhanced Web site.
  • Manuscripts published in Preventive Medicine and Emerging Infectious Diseases.
  • Co-sponsored (with University of Wisconsin) Emerging Infectious Disease Issues in Long-Term Care Conference in Madison, Wisconsin.
  • Worked with the Wisconsin Department of Health on the 2004 Wisconsin Antibiotic Resistance Report-Invasive Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Public Education Activities

  • Distributed educational materials to health departments, clinics, and pharmacies as requested.
  • Sent WARN materials to day care centers throughout the state.
  • Enhancement of Web site with special section for day care providers and school-based educators.
  • Promoted judicious antibiotic use through managed care.
